Is it true that chi......?

Is it true that it leaves the natural oils in your hair? Im thinking about getting one. But i don't want to spend over 120 dollars on a straightener that im not going to like. Right now i have a Conair one that i got for about 30 bucks. It heats up to 300 and it leaves a burned hair smell in my hair. I do use hair protectant to from tresemme. And it still makes my hair smell burnt. Its not like im holding the straightener in my hair for a long period of time i run it quickly threw. I don't slowly go threw my hair. Anyway will it be a good choice? Thanks :]
